Even the best bandage won’t help if it’s not applied correctly. Here’s a quick guide to using gauze bandages safely and effectively:
Clean the wound
Wash your hands first. Then, clean the wound gently using sterile saline or clean water to remove dirt and debris.
Dry the area
Pat the skin dry with a clean cloth or tissue before applying the dressing.
Apply the gauze
Place a piece of degreased gauze over the wound. Make sure it covers the area completely but doesn’t apply excessive pressure.
Secure the bandage
Use medical tape, an elastic wrap, or a cohesive bandage to hold the gauze in place. Avoid wrapping too tightly to ensure good circulation.
Change regularly
Replace the bandage daily or whenever it becomes wet or dirty to prevent infection.
